Whering vs Rate My Fit Now: which wardrobe app to install

Both apps start from the same idea, that the answer to what to wear is already in your wardrobe. They go about it differently. Whering wants you to run your wardrobe; Rate My Fit Now wants to hand you an outfit and show you wearing it.

What Whering is

Whering is a digital wardrobe from a London company, free to use, on iOS, Android and the web. You add clothes by photographing them, with the background removed automatically, or by pulling them from a product database and a Chrome extension while you shop. From there it is a wardrobe management app in the full sense: unlimited outfits and lookbooks, a shuffle it calls Dress Me, a daily suggestion called W Pick that looks at your wardrobe, the weather and your style, a calendar to plan what you will wear, packing lists tied to events, and statistics on cost-per-wear and what you never touch.

It is also social. You can follow people and look through their wardrobes, and there is a curated marketplace of pre-loved and rental brands so you can style a piece before buying it second hand. Sustainability is the stated reason the company exists.

What Rate My Fit Now is

Rate My Fit Now is free on iOS and Android. You photograph an outfit, the app finds each garment in it and files it, and it recognises a piece it has seen before instead of filing it twice. You type where you are going and it hands back complete outfits, from your own wardrobe first and then from labels such as Zara, Gap, M&S and Superdry, and it films five seconds of you wearing one, from a photo you have already added. There is no feed and no public profile.

What it does not do, and this matters if you are choosing: there is no calendar, no cost-per-wear tracking, no manual outfit builder, no packing lists and no web version. Rate My Fit Now is built around one question, what do I wear to this, and answers it with your own clothes. If you want to log and plan your wardrobe the way you might keep a budget, one of the apps below will suit you better.
